Here is a video for The Beijing Live Hip Hop Experience called "Da Xiang". I took the photo and video segments from the event "Local Legends", which took place on September 6th, 2008, and featured three acts: Yinsanr, Young Kin and Project 010, and The Beijing Live Hip Hop Experience.
You'll definitely see what I mentioned earlier as conversational nuances. The guitarist and bassist, like many chinese popular musicians, both have punk rock backgrounds, and MC Webber and Raph's flows are strikingly similar to sound-system inspired ragga. Ijapa, who is an emcee for the group Yinsanr, is also a trained clarinetist--as well as pretty much any thing else that you can blow. A myriad of personal histories create this sound--I hope that 3:47 seconds is long enough to get the picture--this time.
Hope you enjoy the video, more pop-sociology to come, as for now, the hunt for an apartment must continue, in the face of long nights and loud music.
Egad. Some clear eyes and cold beer would do a body and a Macbook good.
